Join the HC Newsletter. My Brothers, I need a lightweight powered mixer for small jobs and jam sessions.

I don’t want to lug the big rig out for low key jobs. How about the Soundcraft GigRac ?

Vendor website reviews were positive, but I wondered what you guys think? My son’s drum teacher asked me to help him find a powered mixer for his jazz quartet.

So I know what you are going through. One of my biggest complaint with the box type powered PA mixers is the lack gigfac individual channel metering. It also is rated at watts at 4ohms which is decent for most small gigs and you can set up a main and monitor section. Main and monitor section each have a small graphic eq section with some sort of feedback sensing band illuminators that may also be helpful to him.

It is fairly lightweight too, about the same as one of the unpowered eons he used as mains. I helped him set it up gigra first time at a birthday gigtac for one his friends, but he says he has since figured it out pretty well and used it a few times since. He said I could borrow it, and I may take him up on the offer.

Good luck on your quest. If you have to use a powered mixer, the Yamaha EMX isn’t too bad.

Its got a monitor send, FX, its overall pretty good for small stuff. My Brothers, I have a Peavey XR set up in the practice studio, and it’s heavy, and I didn’t want to disconnect it from the mics, monitors, keys, V-drums, etc. So, on with looking for a lightweight powered mixer. The GigRac has a built in case and weighs 22 lbs.

Same amp as the XR We also have an optional cover you can get for it. I have the original Gigrac – bought it used and it has worked fine for me. I can shoulder carry it and two stands and put my speakers on girgac hand truck – one trip wonder! The Peavey actually weighs less, is more solidly built, and has way more power. I already have an XR set up in the practice studio, so I’m familiar with it.

So, I bought the D. The local dealer beat all the internet prices, so I’m happy!
